Delhi based, Rail cum Road Vehicles (RRV) manufacturer, Premnath Engineering Works (PEW) has earned a major distinction in delivering large numbers of Rail-Road Vehicles to distinguished railway OHE contractors involved in critical mainline Indian Railways and Metro Railways electrification jobs. The list is quite large. Prominent among its clientele comprises, Larsen & Toubro, Siemens, Alstom India, Kalpataru Power Transmissions and Railtech Infraventure. Having earned the reputation, PEW is now getting aggressive, to encash the growing business opportunities, rising out of Indian Railway’s prestigious electrification programme, aiming to complete electrification of its entire route by 2022. Having very recently delivered five units for OHE related civil work to Alstom and multiple units to Larsen & Toubro for Flash-Butt Welding on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Project, PEW is looking to tap the opportunities backed by its comprehensive engineering capabilities to manufacture, deliver and the support its RRV solutions.

Sharing details of its product offering capabilities, to Railways Review, Mr. Tushar Arora, Partner, Premnath Enginnering Works says, “ Our superior capability is based on our ability to deliver wide range of RRV vehicles for undertaking railway electrification works. The offerings are across the value chain for railway electrification. This is beginning from making solutions for augering, mast erection, OHE contact and catenary wire laying to offering solutions for complete maintenance of the OHE. We can fully customize the solutions based on the customer’s requirements.”

PEW’s portfolio of RRV solutions is quite immense, suited to electrification work for mainline and mass transit metro railways. This consists of 25 GVW trucks mounted with up to 32 ton metre, telescopic knuckle boom cranes with auger attachments, to undertake diameter holes between 900-1200 mm for mast erection. “The augers can drill up to twenty to thirty holes per day. The trucks can be fully customized complete with crane, augers and concrete transit mixers to dig the holes, followed by the placement of the masts and filling the mast surface with concrete, for the entire civil work.” Mentions Mr. Arora.

For mast erection its other RRV solution consists of 25 tons GVW truck, featuring dual motors, mounted with an option of 20, 32 and 40 ton meter stiff-boom lifting cranes and scissor lifts with swivel top. For OHE laying, PEW’s offerings consists of 16/25 tons GVW truck, featuring cable drum holders, scissor lift platforms with side extensions, Mr. Arora points out, “The engineered scissor lifts with auto side extensions and swivel top for easy accessibility to contact and catenary wires.” Offering’s also includes, 11 tons GVW truck for lightweight maintenance jobs for mainline and metro railway electrification and maintenance tasks.

According to Mr. Arora, “the RRV truck chassis can be delivered based on the customer’s choice including brands like Tata, Ashok Leyland or Bharat Benz.”

For providing the complete integrated solutions involving the cranes and the transit mixers, PEW has technical tie ups, with telescopic knuckle boom and stiff boom crane manufacturer, Palfinger and Sunbeam Generators for the 6-7 cum, transit mixers. The transit mixers can be mounted on an option of 25/31 tons truck chassis.

Mr. Arora mentions, “Our products are economical, delivering higher return on investments to the contractors. This is because, we are strongly backward integrated entity, to undertake the entire manufacturing of the rail wheel sets, fabrication of the units including the bodies to the final mounting of the supporting solutions and attachment parts and also the complete outrigger systems of the trucks. Further, our solutions deliver high on quality as we have strict in-house quality monitoring systems for the products being manufactured from its design to its final completion stages.” He adds, “Our expertise also includes of manufacturing the entire hydraulic systems, placement of the gears and hoses, attached to the rail wheel sets for lifting up and bringing down the right truck chassis while working on the rails backed by the right pressure.”

PEW which offers wide products from its stable provides customized annual maintenance contract support packages along with complete parts support and training. It will be looking to leverage its product support initiatives taking cognizance of the population of its RRV’s rising further.
